Hi guys!
Welcome to another blog post, and a very special one at that!
Over the last few weeks, I have been sharing with you some VERY yummy snaps of the bakes that the team over at Beau's Bakehouse kindly sent over to me to try out!
Beau’s Bakehouse is a little bakery tucked away in the Cotswolds, specialising in bakes
that use only natural ingredients, meaning that they don’t contain any of those nasty artificial additives or preservatives.
Jacqui, the owner, tells on their website, that Beau was her grandmother, who also, like herself, had a passion for baking, with Beau having owned a 'Cake Kitchen' in 1920's New Zealand. All of the recipes used by the team in their very special creations are ones that she has collected ever since she was small - a proper family business!
The products that I was sent to try out included: Lemon Curd Shortcake Slices; Vegan Brownie with Peanut Butter & Maple Syrup Slices; Lemon and Poppyseed Cake, and Carrot Cake! (And two little shortbread angels too)! I'm so excited to tell you what myself and my family thought about them all!
Can we also talk about how PRETTY the wrapping is! You just have to look at it, I don't even need to tell you about it, you can see for yourself!
Lemon Curd Shortcake Slices
Well, if you love lemon then these are the ones for you!! The soft, crumbly texture of the buttery shortbread of these bakes compliments the burst of the zesty lemon curd so well. Even better, the curd is handmade in the bakery!!
I've got to say that these are one of the nicest slices of shortbread, that I have tasted, in the 19 years that I've been on the planet. This goes for my parents too, and the time that they've been around.
It's also the BEST lemon curd that I've ever had; a zesty, sharp hit, combined with the soft crumble of the bake. They're just THAT good!
We all had one each, and, while we ate, I left the other in the kitchen to deliver to my boyfriend (socially distanced)m the following day. Was it there when I went back into the kitchen? No. (Thanks Dad - I'm also not surprised though).
Vegan Brownie with Peanut Butter & Maple Syrup Slices
Calling all the vegans (and even non-vegans!) for this one - YUM! This brownie is a chocolate-ly, peanut-y amalgamation and is a soft, crumbly delight.
Now, those who have been following me for a while, will know that I am not a Vegan, however, I am ALWAYS keen to eat plant-based meals and snacks, where I can do. This is a result of doing Veganuary this year, along with my current University Course facilitating my knowledge in the benefits of plant-based diets.
Usually, when you buy a Vegan brownie, you tend to find that they are lacking in taste, and have a strange texture, and are as far from a regular brownie as you can get. This was definitely not the case with these. Everything about them was perfect, and I would definitely buy them again, over baking my usual brownies.
We found them to melt in your mouth, and to be rich in flavour, a perfect afternoon treat with a cuppa! I can't do them justice in words, you just have to try them for yourself!
Lemon and Poppyseed Cake
Moist, and light as a feather. The only two words that I need to write to describe this cake! This cake is made with fresh lemons, poppy seeds, and is topped with a zesty
lemon buttercream, to finish off!
We loved the texture of the seeds, combined with the softness of the cake, and it honestly tasted like no other we have had before!
In the past, we have tried this same flavour of cake, and the quality has just not been there. I am so glad that we have found a new favourite place to order our bakes from.
This bake would also be perfect for a gift for those lemon-lovers in your life, along with any other bake from this company!
The only negative to this one, is that it dries out a bit quicker than the carrot cake did, so it needs to be eaten a bit quicker, but, again, that's no problem, it'll be gone in a flash! Or, freeze for up to a month!
